Local farmers are planting fresh possibilities within our economy. They’re reaping revenues with the help of the following resources:
The Garrett Farms website is a virtual—and local—support network of local farmers and farming events that can expand your network and know-how.
Garrett Growers is a group of fresh produce farmers furthering the “Buy Local” movement in Garrett County by selling wholesale to restaurants and retailers. They also have a Veggie Box program, much like a CSA-Community Supported Agriculture subscription service.
The Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) helps Maryland’s farm, forestry, seafood, and recreation-based businesses achieve profitability and sustainability. They provide targeted services that help retain existing Ag/RBI production and commerce; promote rural entrepreneurship; and nurture emerging industries through low-interest loan and rural business development programs, including:
- Maryland Resource-Based Industry Financing Fund
- Rural Business Energy Efficiency Program
- Rural Business Working Capital Fund
- Maryland Farm and Producer Viability Program
The Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF) provides timely capital to triple-bottom-line businesses and farms that drive growth, increase profitability, create employment opportunities, and have positive environmental impact. Investments are structured in a variety of ways, based on transaction and borrower need, with loan amounts up to $500,000.
USDA Farm Service Agency provides consultations, assistance, and funding for individuals and businesses located in rural communities.
Maryland Rural Enterprise Development Center helps future farmers to develop flourishing businesses, giving guidance on financing, land acquisition, business planning, and agricultural production.
