We have our own hospital within the Oakland city limits, but it doesn't stop there. There are several top-flight medical facilities within an hour's drive. Here's an overview of the care available to you within reach of our County Garrett County Memorial Hospital: Located in Oakland, Garrett County Memorial Hospital is a 76-bed acute care facility, serving all of Garrett County and its neighboring counties in West Virginia. The Emergency Department is staffed by an experienced group of physicians and backed by nursing personnel trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Life Support and trauma care. GCMH recently expanded its services with the addition of a new Wound Care Center, which opened earlier this year. Garrett County Health Department: Located in Oakland, the Garrett County Health Department provides leadership in promoting and assuring environmental and individual health through education, regulation, health promotion, disease prevention, detection and awareness, and medical treatment and care. The Health Department is responsible for assisting the community and its citizens to assume responsibility for both individual health and the health of the community. Mountain Laurel Medical Center: A federally-qualified health center, the Mountain Laurel Medical Center will be constructed on the campus of the Garrett County Health Department. The Center is currently located in the lower level of the Regional Eye Center on Memorial Drive in Oakland. Mountain Laurel offers a sliding fee scale for those who qualify and serves the insured, uninsured and under-insured. Monongalia Health System: Mon General Hospital, in Morgantown, WV, is the cornerstone of Mon Health System. The 189-bed community hospital houses a state-of-the art Heart Care Center. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: UPMC is ranked 14th in the nation by U. S. News and World Report, and is just a little over two hours driving time from Garrett County, MD. UPMC encompasses 20 hospitals with more than 400 clinical locations, including long-term care and senior living facilities. West Virginia University Hospitals: WVUH boasts the only Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in northern West Virginia, as well as the only neonatal and pediatric intensive care unit. The Rosenbaum Family House is available for out-of-town families who have a family member in the Children's Hospital, Trauma Center, or regular hospital. WVUH's Chestnut Ridge Center is a leading regional referral center for treatment of psychiatric illness and addiction for adults and adolescents. Western MD Health System: WMHS offers a comprehensive range of general and specialty services for medical, surgical, pediatric and obstetrical patients. Sophisticated diagnostic testing services are provided at each hospital campus, Braddock and Memorial, as well as at off-site clinics and the outpatient diagnostic center. An extensive range of physician specialities is available, with over 200 physicians practicing in the community. In addition, the Braddock campus is home to the Regional Cancer Center.
